Privacy policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
The short version. The Lumavu app doesn't collect anything about you. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. It talks to the servers you add and to Apple, and nothing else. This website keeps one thing: your email address, if you join the waitlist, so we can tell you when Lumavu launches.
Who we are
Lumavu is made by Thinkers & Builders ("we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or your data, email hello@thinkersandbuilders.co.uk.
The Lumavu app
Playlists, accounts and servers you add
When you add an Xtream Codes account, an M3U playlist, a Jellyfin or Emby server, or a guide, Lumavu stores its details on your device. Passwords are kept in your device's Keychain. Lumavu connects directly from your device to those servers to fetch channels, guides, artwork and video. We never receive these details or see what you watch. The companies that run those servers have their own privacy policies, and they will see the connections your device makes to them, as with any app or website.
Free sample channels
If you choose to load the sample channels or the free news channels, Lumavu downloads public lists and guides from the community projects that publish them. Those services see an ordinary web request from your device. Nothing else is sent.
Live subtitles and translation
Live subtitles use Apple's speech recognition and translation, running on your device. The audio and the text it produces stay on your device. The first time you use a language, its language files are downloaded from Apple.
What stays on your device
- Your favourites, lists, watch progress and settings.
- Recordings and downloaded films and episodes.
- The app's logs. They stay on your device unless you choose to share them with us.
- Backups, which are saved as files wherever you choose.
Purchases
Lumavu Pro is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment and never shares your payment details with us. The app only checks with Apple whether Pro is active on your device. Apple gives developers sales reports that don't identify you.
Crash reports
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may send us crash reports and usage figures that don't identify you. You can turn this off in Settings, under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
This website
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store your email address and the date you joined. We use it for one thing: to email you when Lumavu is available on the App Store. We don't share it with anyone or use it for marketing. Once we've sent that email, we delete the list. We rely on your consent to keep it, and you can withdraw that at any time by emailing us, and we'll remove you.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse. The waitlist is stored with Cloudflare too. The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party trackers. Its fonts are served from the site itself.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. For the waitlist that's your email address and nothing more. Email hello@thinkersandbuilders.co.uk and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Lumavu doesn't collect personal data from anyone, including children. Parents can lock categories behind a PIN in the app's settings.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Lumavu or this site handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
